AU converting to organic

Broadacre land converted for organic farming

In an Australian first, more than 10,000 hectares of broadcre farming land is being converted to organic production.

Two properties which span across western Victoria's Wimmera district and South Australia's south-east are currently being transformed to help improve soil quality.

Swiss Landholder, Pierre Aberezol says it'll be a very costly transformation, which will take more than seven years to complete.

He says markets have already been established, one being the organic pet food market in Europe:

"[The] organic market in Europe is just bigger and bigger every day.

"The latest thing that we find organic in the European market is food for the dogs; [people] make a fortune sending food for dogs.

"Sometimes more people take more care of their pets than themselves."
